How to know you are ready to travel to Namibia

By Bernd Grahl

You have a deep desire to experience wide open spaces.

You prefer your roads to be dead straight, avoiding any and all turns and curves.

You are in need of a new diet that consists of various meats.

You long to braai(BBQ) as much as possible.

You miss looking at the night sky and seeing nothing but stars.

You enjoy meeting new and diverse people.

You need to meet people who enjoy Jägermeister/beer as much as you do.

You would like to visit the place where some of the best beer in the world (Windhoek/Tafel) is made. (According to us, at least)

You want to see a place where ‘the middle of nowhere’ is five minutes outside of any town.

You want to see the Big 5 up close and personal, through your car window.

You want to see the place that inspires legends and stories, and recent Hollywood flicks.

You want to stand in nature and hear the sound of silence.

You want to be able to stand on the beach while looking at the oldest desert in the world.

You want to visit a place that values sunsets as much as they value water – crucial to survival and something to be celebrated. (sundowner pic)

You actually want to join the tradition that believes anything is worth celebrating.

You are willing to try unique and different kinds of food: warthog, snake and ostrich eggs!

You would like to stand at the edge of the second largest canyon in the world.

You are brave enough to enter the Dragon’s Breath (not an actual dragon).

You enjoy listening to long stories about legends and animals.

You crave fresh, clean air.

You feel the need to run up the side of a 200m tall dune.

You want to explore a deserted mining town.

And look across the ocean as the longest wave in the world breaks along the shore.
