Each online application form times out after about 30 minutes, so have everything ready before you start.

    Documents to Upload

Along with your personal and travel details, the application form asks you to upload:

    • a passport scan (PDF format, smaller than 2MB)
    • a passport photo (smaller than 300KB)

Places to Be Visited (Field 10)

Our contact at the MHAISS support service confirmed that international travellers only have to provide the first and the last place of their stay:

    • First place (e.g. lodge name, Windhoek)
    • Destinations (e.g. Kalahari, Sossusvlei, Swakopmund)
    • Last place of stay (e.g. lodge name, Etosha)

For a visit to family and friends, one full contact address and telephone number is sufficient.

How to Apply Online, Step by Step

As long as you choose the correct visa option, Visa on Arrival, the process is manageable. We followed an application through with a German client over a screen share.

    1. 1

      Register an Account

Start on the website of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security (MHAISS): eservices.mhaiss.gov.na/visaonarrival. You have to register an account before you can start the application process.

    2. 2

      Complete One Form per Traveller

Choose Visa on Arrival, not Holiday Visa. A visa application form must be filled in for each individual, but once registered, one family member can submit applications on behalf of the others.

You have approximately 30 minutes to complete and submit each form. After that you receive a time-out message and have to start again, though the second attempt goes considerably faster.

    3. 3

      Pay the Visa Fee

The fee depends on your country and age group (see Cost), plus 3% service fees. Group bulk payments of up to NAD 97,000 are possible for online e-visa transactions.

    4. 4

      Print Your E-Visa

The E-Visa on Arrival is issued immediately once the application and payment process is complete. Print it and present it to the immigration officials in Namibia. You have to sign the printout in front of the immigration official upon arrival.

The e-visa is automatically issued as a multiple entry visa, so you can take a trip to Victoria Falls and re-enter Namibia on the same visa. Applicants who fill in their form at the point of entry should ask the immigration officer for a multiple entry visa if they need one.

    • Approved e-visa; the printout must be signed in front of the immigration officer
    • Valid passport with a validity of 6 months beyond the stay and at least three blank pages
    • Invitation letter or booking confirmation(s) for accommodation or travel itinerary
    • Confirmation of sufficient funds (present booking confirmation(s) and your credit/debit card)
    • Medical/travel insurance (in English)
    • Full birth certificate or parental consent letter if travelling with children

    Arrival Form

Everyone who did not apply for an E-Visa on Arrival in advance has to fill in an Arrival Form (A5 format required), which is often already provided on the plane before landing. Download the Arrival Form here.

    Frequently Asked Questions

To find out what kind of visa you need for Namibia, see the Namibia Visa Fact Sheet.

According to a media release from TASA dated 28 March 2025, the validity period for the Visa on Arrival has been extended to 90 days in a calendar year from the date of issue. Travellers who have already obtained an E-Visa on Arrival since the launch and require additional days can request an extension upon arrival.

Each person should apply for an Online Visa on Arrival separately. However, once you have registered an account on the MHAISS website, you can file a separate application for each family member by using your account. Group bulk payments have been introduced for online e-visa transactions, enabling payments up to NAD 97,000.

Each international traveller must apply for an individual Visa on Arrival. However, group bulk payments have been introduced for online e-visa transactions, enabling service providers to pay up to NAD 97,000. Please note that each individual member of a tour group must be able to present the required documents in person as well as a personal credit/debit card at the point of entry.

Whether you are part of a group or not, you will be considered as an individual upon entry. All required documents must be presented.

After consultation with the Ministry, tourism associations emphasised that it was sufficient to present the booking confirmation(s) and a credit/debit card. The visa support service also assured us that a recent bank statement would be sufficient.

Travellers holding e-visas are not required to complete arrival forms if their e-visa clearly states that it serves as an arrival form. However, these travellers must provide the printed e-visa and sign it in the presence of an immigration official. Travellers who obtained their e-visas prior to the implementation of the new e-visa format will still have to complete an arrival form. Other travellers who do not have to complete an arrival form are Namibian citizens, persons domiciled in Namibia and holders of permanent residence permits.
