Once again, here at Gondwana Collection Namibia, The People Team decided to pull out all the stops to make employees feel cared for from head to toe—with a Wellness Day! The ‘fun day’ of sorts, aimed to promote physical, mental, and financial well-being, while giving employees a chance to engage with industry experts.
Mia Healthcare, a pioneer in affordable and inclusive mobile dentistry, provided on-the-spot dental check-ups to coworkers.
The day's wellness services did not end there, Namibia Health Plan (NHP) ensured that employees had their vitals examined, including blood pressure, glucose, and cholesterol levels, as well as BMI, waist, and hip measurements for a deeper look into personal health and lifestyle risks among others while also providing some guidance on health insurance benefits.
Massage therapists provided brief yet soothing back and neck massages to help relax everyone who participated, meanwhile, the Cancer Association of Namibia educated people on cancer prevention. On the more active side of things, Virgin Active fitness trainers offered advice on the importance of fitness and keeping in great shape, membership plans and overall helped employees flex their options for a healthier lifestyle!
Whether we are tending to Gondwana membership cards, vacation bookings or navigating this fast-paced tourism industry, one thing’s for sure- a healthy life is a happy life and at Gondwana Collection Namibia we believe taking care of yourself can be as rewarding as it is essential.
On 25 October 2024, we filled the streets with pink as part of the Cancer Association of Namibia’s Pink Shake-a-Can initiative, dedicated to raising awareness for breast cancer. Just like last year, we took to the streets with bigger hearts than ever before, and cans provided by the Cancer Association of Namibia.
Namdia Traffic Lights: Intersection leading to The Weinberg Windhoek, at the corner of Sam Nujoma Drive, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah Avenue, and Jan Jonker Street.
Madiba Corner Traffic Signals: Intersection at Hugo Hahn Street, 42 Nelson Mandela Avenue, and Dr. Kwame Nkrumah Avenue.
Our Gondwana Collection team members were all dressed up in pink, radiating enthusiasm at each stop. We shook our cans, danced like no one was watching (which they certainly were), united in our mission to remind everyone that no one should face cancer alone. From 06:00 to 08:00am, we were out collecting funds.
If you saw us, THANK YOU for your love, donations, and the incredible energy you brought to the day! If you missed us, there’s still time to get involved and show your support. You can donate online through the Cancer Association of Namibia's website: https://www.can.org.na/, share the message on social media, or simply send positive vibes to those who need it most. Together, we can keep fighting, one step at a time, because we are stronger together.
This initiative reflects our commitment to giving back to the communities we cherish, and we are immensely proud of everyone who helped make this happen! Together, we can raise awareness and provide the support needed to confront cancer head-on.
World Cleanup Day is commemorated annually and voluntarily across the globe. Namibia’s National Cleanup Campaign, officially observed on 12 October 2024 under the theme “Namibia, Healthy and Clean,” is endorsed by the Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism (MEFT). This initiative mobilises organisations and individuals to invest in litter-free communities by raising awareness about responsible disposal and cleaning up their environment.
Gondwana Collection Namibia’s Waste Cleanup initiative aims to unite employees in the spirit of environmental stewardship, sustainability, and community impact at Gondwana’s Head Office in Windhoek. The cleanup involved members from various Gondwana Collection departments and was initiated by Gondwana Collection’s Environmental and Social Impact Team.
Participants were provided with a Cleanup Map, gloves, and refuse bags, allowing them to collect and responsibly dispose of litter in and around the Klein Windhoek riverbed, as well as along Nelson Mandela Avenue and Bassingthwaighte Street leading up to the Namibia2Go Car Rental Offices. Refuse was collected according to the materials designated for recycling at the Head Office: glass, plastic, tins and cans, and paper.
Nearly 100 bags of refuse were collected by participants, with additional community members joining in on the initiative. Every Namibian can contribute to responsible resource use and disposal. Simple actions, such as opting for reusable bags, bottles, straws, and other items, can significantly reduce the demand for single-use plastics. Where possible, sorting waste prior to final disposal ensures that materials are repurposed efficiently. Composting food scraps and growing vegetable and fruit gardens can reduce landfill waste while promoting environmental sustainability. Additionally, being a conscious consumer and upcycling old items into new can prevent unnecessary disposal.
Ensuring responsible disposal, recycling, and fostering waste-consciousness among employees and within the community are vital components of living Gondwana Collection’s sustainability philosophy. By addressing environmental challenges such as waste mismanagement, Gondwana Collection strives to contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation; SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities; and SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production. This collective effort aims to foster a healthy and clean Namibia.
