On 29–30 November 2023, the Hospitality Apprentice Induction unfolded with a meticulously planned agenda, aiming to provide apprentices with a comprehensive understanding of the programme.
Gondwana Collection Namibia’s Learning and Development Team is consistently working towards diversifying employees’ self-study, personal growth and technical skills training. Rightly so, the Hospitality Apprenticeship Programme, a transformative endeavour commenced in July 2023, which spans over 36 months with 17 apprentices. The programme epitomises a commitment to cultivating success by nurturing the success of each participant.
Enrolled apprentices receive a monthly stipend, travel subsidiary, and leave provisions in accordance with the labour law. Aligned with the highest company standards, the programme's work cycles allow for a coveted National Training Authority (NTA) Level 3 Qualification upon completion.
Key pillars of the programme embody effective communication, a fervent passion for learning, teamwork, and an unwavering commitment to excellence. Apprentices undergo immersive, full-time classes at a distinguished Training Provider, Okakarara Vocational Training Centre for 3-4 months annually, seamlessly blending academic rigour with hands-on practical experiences.
The programme content traverses the National Vocational Certificate in Hospitality and Tourism, Level 3, spotlighting accommodation services and food & beverage services. Qualification content span an array of crucial areas, encompassing workplace health and safety, customer service, English communication, waste management, environmental ethics and food safety.
During the Hospitality Apprentice Induction, 29-30 November 2023, the sessions covered various aspects essential for a successful apprenticeship journey. The importance of maintaining a graceful and professional image was emphasised, highlighting the significance of a polished appearance within the hospitality industry.
The induction also included an in-depth introduction to the Apprenticeship Programme, offering participants insights into its overarching objectives and expectations. An interactive discussion on apprentices' expectations served as a platform to address queries and align individual expectations with the programme's goals. Unpacking the Qualification involved a thorough exploration of key components and learning outcomes, ensuring apprentices gained a clear understanding of their educational and practical journey.
Fostering an environment for collective understanding, group discussions and clarification sessions were incorporated, enhancing the collaborative nature of the apprenticeship experience. Workshops on effective communication, workplace etiquette, and professional conduct were conducted, complemented by practical applications such as role-playing exercises and scenario discussions to sharpen communication skills.
The agenda also featured sessions on marketing, personal branding, and employability skills, fostering engagement through interactive activities and group discussions. Exploration of the 16 Gondwana Guidelines underscored their significance and practical application within the industry.
A workshop on personal values and reflection provided a space for apprentices to identify their values and align them with professional goals, followed by a reflective group sharing session. The induction culminated in a focused session on setting individual goals, crafting action plans, and discussing the upcoming steps in the apprenticeship journey. Top of Form
