What does it take to keep Namibia’s tourism industry moving? For Namibia University of Science and Technology's (NUST) first- and second-year students, the answers came straight from the people who make it happen.

Gondwana Collection Namibia recently welcomed the students to its Head Office for a day of learning, lively discussions and a behind-the-scenes look at the many opportunities within tourism industry.
Silke Ahrens from our Training and Development team kicked things off by sharing her passion for the industry. She told students to see tourism not merely as a career choice, but as a people-driven industry built on passion, purpose and creating memorable experiences.

Tapiwa Lushetile, Senior Learning & Development Associate, said Gondwana invests in its people through in-house training. Students also learned how prior learning and work experience can be recognised through Namibia Training Authority (NTA) programmes, helping employees work towards formal qualifications while gaining practical skills.
But, tourism is about more than accommodation. Naomi Bezuidenhoudt, Cluster Team Leader, from Gondwana's Travel Centre introduced the students to Gondwana’s broader range of services, including accommodation across Namibia, car hire through Namibia2Go, shuttle services with theGo2 Tourism Shuttle, and travel packages through Gondwana Travel Centre. The students brought their curiosity along, asking questions and exploring the many moving parts of the business.

Maria Thomas, Reservations Manager, from our Central Reservations team then opened a window into the world of tour operators who turn travel plans into ready-to-book experiences, highlighting the importance of strong industry relationships in creating seamless travel experiences.
The visit gave more than a peek at Gondwana’s operations. It showed students that every journey is supported by a team of people, skills, and partnerships working together to make it happen.
