Recycle Namibia , The Delight Swakopmund

New Chandelier at The Delight Swakopmund Hotel: From Dune to Deep

By Terttu Newaka
April 22, 2026

Step into The Delight Swakopmund and your eyes are drawn upward. Here, light no longer simply illuminates a space. It tells a story.

The hotel’s new chandelier is a quiet, glowing narrative that begins in the towering sands of Dune 7 and descends, layer by layer, into the depths of the Atlantic Ocean.

Titled From Dune to Deep, this striking installation is crafted from recycled glass, a bold idea conceived by Stephen Pikus: what if you could take a giant core sample of Namibia itself? Imagine drilling from the summit of Dune 7, through the country’s mineral-rich earth, and into the ocean floor. What stories would those layers tell?

This chandelier answers that question in glass, light, and texture.

A Descent Through Colour and Meaning

The journey begins at the top, where warm hues of amber, gold, and brown shimmer in recycled glass. These tones echo the shifting sands of the Namib, capturing the stillness and intensity of the desert.

As the eye travels downward, the palette evolves. Fragments inspired by rose quartz and copper emerge, paying tribute to Namibia’s mining heritage. These materials, deeply rooted in the country’s economic and cultural identity, form a transitional layer, a bridge between land and sea.

Further down, the atmosphere softens. The colours lighten into whites and pale aquas, with subtle textures reminiscent of shells and shoreline. It feels like standing at the edge of the ocean, where desert meets water in a rare and beautiful convergence.

Then, gradually, the tones deepen.

Aqua becomes turquoise. Turquoise becomes blue. And finally, the installation settles into a rich, dark navy - the colour of the ocean’s depths. Here, tiny, recycled glass beads are scattered throughout, catching the light like hidden treasures. They symbolise uncut diamonds, a quiet nod to Namibia’s unique position as one of the few places in the world where diamonds are mined from beneath the sea.

A Journey You Can Stand Under

What makes this chandelier exceptional beyond its scale or craftsmanship, is its intent. Every colour shift, every material choice, every glint of light has meaning.

This chandelier at The Delight is not merely decorative. It asks you to travel.

This installation embodies Gondwana Collection’s commitment to authenticity, sustainability, and creative storytelling. Crafted from recycled materials and inspired by indigenous landscapes, it bridges art and environment in a way that feels contemporary and timeless.

Sometimes, all it takes is looking up.

Welcome to The Delight Hotel. Welcome to the core of Namibia.
