Namibia’s greatest storyteller was found at the Windhoek Show 2014.
Mervin Beukes from Rehoboth is Namibia’s greatest storyteller. Yesterday he won the final of the Okambashu Story Quest held at the Windhoek Show in front of an audience of 150 people.
Nine finalists participated in the 12 o’clock auditions in the Gondwana Hall. Four of them were chosen to take part at the evening event.
The judges at the Grand Finale were the South-African storytellers Jammies Jamneck, Nico Nel, Arno van Zyl and Dr. Dorian Haarhof who also entertained the audience with their storytelling skills as well as Gerrie Jamneck. Namibian judges were Hannu Shipena, Trophy Hiwilepo and Dani Booysen.
Namibia’s greatest storyteller 2014, Mervin Beukes, won the prize money of N$12000, 2nd place: Johan Koegelenberg N$8000, 3rd place Mario van Wyk N$5000 and 4th place Koos van der Merwe N$3500.
The other 5 finalists each won N$2500. They were: Natasha de Waal, Michael Kambungu, Werner Gevers, Gerbie van Wyk and Awebahe Johannes //Hoeseb.
The Okambashu Story Quest was organized by Gondwana Collection Namibia, Bank Windhoek and NMH.
