The Desert Grace is one of the most beautiful accommodations in the Gondwana Namib Park. Located around 60 kilometres north of Sesriem, it offers 24 freestanding bungalows with private plunge pools and a clear focus on peace and comfort. Subtle pink elements such as chairs, tables and umbrellas create distinctive accents within an otherwise warm, earthy colour palette and give the lodge its unique character.
Arrival at the Lodge
Along the dusty track through the Gondwana Namib Park, about halfway to the lodge, a sign invited us to “Take a photo, grab a drink.” We were happy to accept and helped ourselves to the solar-powered pink fridge filled with chilled beverages, freely accessible to arriving guests.

Right next to it is a photo spot: a pink frame for a selfie with sweeping views across the open desert landscape. A stop here is worthwhile not only for the refreshment and the photo, but also to soak in the special atmosphere. There is something pleasantly surreal about sitting on pink chairs in the middle of the desert and enjoying a cold drink.
Location and Natural Surrounding
The lodge is set within the vast Gondwana Namib Park, on the edge of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Namib Sand Sea. Sossusvlei, Dead Vlei and the world’s highest dunes are around 90 minutes away and can easily be visited on a day trip.

Within the private reserve, guided dune drives and walking trails are offered. In the desert landscape, guests frequently encounter oryx antelope, springbok and wildebeest. Night walks are also available and offer a fascinating glimpse into the otherwise hidden life of the desert.
Architecture and Design
The architecture follows a clear, modern and sustainable concept. The bungalows are built from plastered sandbags, helping them remain comparatively cool even during high daytime temperatures. Polished concrete, warm natural tones, wood and glass create a calm and contemporary atmosphere.

The freestanding bungalows offer a high degree of privacy and combine modern design with comfort. Large windows allow plenty of natural light inside, while private plunge pools and outdoor showers emphasise outdoor living. In addition to spacious beds, the units feature en-suite bathrooms, outdoor showers and terraces overlooking the desert landscape.

The private pool is particularly welcome during the warm afternoon hours. Despite the remote setting, nothing is lacking: air conditioning, Wi-Fi, a coffee station and thoughtful details ensure a comfortable stay. Solar power, natural ventilation and a conscious use of resources support the lodge’s sustainable operation.
Cuisine and Atmosphere
The open bar and restaurant area forms the heart of the lodge, offering wide views across the Gondwana Namib Park. Breakfast and dinner are served buffet-style, while a small à la carte selection is available at lunchtime. Regional products and Namibian delicacies feature alongside international classics.

Between the restaurant and bar, a striking installation draws the eye: a circular water feature with a central fire pit, spanned by curved wooden beams that form a sculptural structure above the basin. This architectural focal point quickly becomes a favourite spot for sundowners, with uninterrupted views across the desert landscape.
Our Personal Highlight: The Night Sky
After sunset, an exceptionally clear night sky appears, free from light pollution. The Milky Way is visible to the naked eye. For us, the Namib’s night sky always ranks among the most impressive natural experiences of any journey through Namibia.

Conclusion
The Desert Grace combines modern architecture and sustainable design with the tranquillity and vastness of the Namib. While deliberately minimalist in style, it offers a comfortable base for exploring the Sossusvlei region. Ideal for couples, families and travellers seeking a stylish design lodge set within an extraordinary desert landscape.
