Overview & Location

There's a touch of magic and intrigue at this rustic 'Ghost Gorge' cabin, designed for self-catering guests. Simplistic but exclusive as it hides in a secluded valley in southwestern Namibia, where a rusty bullet-ridden Hudson greets you at the entrance road, a relic from a gunfight between diamond smugglers and police. Further along the trail, a series of stone ramparts are visible from the days of WWI.

The Geisterschlucht Cabin consists of two-family rooms with a shared bathroom, kitchen and lounge area. Solar panels provide 220 Volt electricity. The two rooms sleep a total of four persons per room with bedding provided. The open plan kitchen and lounge area is equipped with a fridge, gas burner and an indoor braai area including cutlery, crockery, pots and pans. There is also an outdoor barbecue to enjoy pleasant evenings around the fire.

Guests are more than welcome at the Desert Horse Inn's restaurant for breakfast or dinner (on prior request). An alternative option is ordering barbecue packs at the reception, six kilometres away. Several hiking and mountain bike trails run through the picturesque valley and the habitat of the Wild Horses is just 20 km away. The historic port town of Lüderitz and the ghost town of Kolmanskuppe, 100 km away, are also worth a visit.

To keep in mind: During certain periods of the year the cabin may only be accessible with a 4x4 vehicle. Kindly enquire when making your reservation. There is a minimum charge when making a booking.

Day Trip to Lüderitz & Kolmanskop

Lüderitz is just 120 km away and the ghost town of Kolmanskop only 115 km (tar road). Klein-Aus Vista is the ideal starting point for a trip to both places. Only 20 km from Aus, on the way to or back from Lüderitz, visit the Garub water hole where the wild horses and several other animals of the desert plains can be found. The Wild Horses of the Namib have roamed this harsh habitat since 1915 and are an experience one should not miss.

Mountain Biking (self-guided)

There is a choice of different routes on well marked trails: varying from 20 km to 80 km - mostly single track trails, recommended for riders with intermediate skills. Dual suspension bikes available for rent..
E-bikes are also available, rates are available on request.
