Overview & Location

Quiver trees, Nama culture, rugged landscape, and an impressive sweeping rock formation characterise Canyon Village. Forty-two stone-and-thatch chalets are positioned in a horseshoe design around a celebration of young quiver trees and the sprawling thatched central area, bedecked with bougainvillaea, serving as a restaurant, bar, lounge, and reception.

An ox-wagon with over hundreds of years of history ingrained in its wood stands in the buffet area, and a well-preserved horse cart has been placed amongst the boulders in the cosy bar. These homely touches bring warmth and intrigue to a lodge which is an ideal base to explore the Fish River Canyon, Namibia's star attraction, only 16 kilometres away from Hobas, the Fish River Canyon’s main viewing point.

Join a guided excursion to the canyon viewpoints to be inspired by new perspectives. You haven't gained a suitable perspective of the surrounds until you glimpse the spectacular view from the rocky heights.

Morning/Afternoon Canyon Drive

Especially for guests who want a break from the wheel or those on a fly-in safari. You are taken to the two major lookout points along the Fish River Canyon. Our guide will tell you all about the canyon's fascinating geology. Refreshments, a light snack and all park entry fees are included.

Sunrise Hike (guided)

We drive you to a spot with a grand view where you can enjoy coffee or tea and rusks while watching the sunrise against the unique backdrop of Gondwana Canyon Park. This is followed by a walk of about one hour back to the lodge. This tour does not include the Fish River Canyon.

Morning Walk (semi-guided)

This hike takes you right into Gondwana Canyon Park. You are accompanied by a guide who will gladly share his knowledge about the fascinating desert landscape around the canyon. A bottle of water is included. This tour does not go the Fish River Canyon.

This self-drive takes you on marked roads through the Gondwana Canyon Park. Enjoy the beautiful scenery and look out for the many wild animals that call this nature park home. A trail map is provided. Please ensure to leave the Gondwana Canyon Park before sunset.

Sunset Walk (escorted)

All guests are invited to wrap up the day with a short excursion to our very own ‘local’ mountain. Have a drink and watch the sun go down. Refreshments will be charged on the room.

Hiking Trail Village to Lodge

A hiking trail takes you from Canyon Village up to a mountain plateau. Enjoy a breath-taking view of the vast plains adjacent to the canyon. At ‘Archway Rock’ you start to make your way back into the plain and to the lodge.

Canyon Village is located an easy 16 kilometers (10 miles) from Hobas, the main entrance gate to the Fish River Canyon National Park. This close proximity allows self-drive visitors to easily reach the prime canyon lookouts in under 20 minutes for optimal early morning photography.
