Commemorated each year on 12 August, International Youth Day aims to shed light on the difficulties that young people encounter, acknowledge their valuable contributions to society, and encourage their active participation in creating a brighter future.
The United Nations has declared the 2025 theme as: “Local Youth Actions for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Beyond”. This theme signifies the importance of adapting and implementing global objectives to the unique needs of local communities. Ensuring that development remains inclusive, participatory, and sustainable, while equally aligning with broader national and international commitments is therefore of utmost importance.
At Gondwana Collection, sustainability is deeply rooted in who we are. We are dedicated to promoting conservation and enhancing community well-being. In alignment with the SDGs, our commitment focuses on nature conservation, water efficiency, energy management, waste management, green practices, and community engagement. We believe that investing in young people to carry out and reflect these efforts is fundamentally investing in the future of our communities, our industry, and Namibia.
From our lodges to our leadership teams, youth are at the heart of our story. We are dedicated to creating opportunities that foster career development, skills development, and personal growth. Through our learning and development programmes, such as the Gondwana Academy,) as well as employment opportunities, we aim to equip the youth to thrive in tourism, hospitality, and beyond.
As sustainable tourism and hospitality enriches Namibia, we believe that empowering young people to partake in this localisation process transforms them into key drivers of innovation and resilience within our nation. This year's theme highlights the vital role that young people play in bringing SDGs to life.
To the leaders of tomorrow and changemakers of today, shaping the future of tourism, hospitality, and Namibia, we celebrate you.
