Gondwana honours its social responsibility in tough times

In these challenging times the Gondwana Care Trust remains true to its motto of supporting the most vulnerable members of our society. From May to July 2020, the MealForTwo programme has provided nearly 40,000 meals to individual beneficiaries in kindergartens, orphanages, communities and senior citizen homes.  Bank Windhoek and Global United FC as well as other generous sponsors made these relief efforts possible.

Since the Covid-19 pandemic and the resulting national lockdown hit Namibia in March this year, the Gondwana Care Trust has focused on providing food aid to people in need and has delivered a calculated total of 33,000 meals to its 2,500 individual beneficiaries. Supplemented with the meat donated by the Gondwana Self-Sufficency Centre in Stampriet, the meals amount to nearly 40,000.

Gondwana Collection Namibia established the Gondwana Care Trust in 2017 - a dedicated Corporate Social Initiative (CSI) fund. The commitment to social responsibility and community support is seen as fundamental to the company’s philosophy. “We have always strived to make a positive difference in our environment and communities,” says Dgini Visser, Trustee of the Gondwana Care Trust. “We started supporting selected charities several years ago with the Gondwana Memes & Tates, a group of dedicated colleagues, who wanted to ensure that our donations reach those in need. This initiative gave rise to the Gondwana Care Trust.”

Apart from the MealForTwo programme, the efforts include the donation of clothing, bedding, and educational materials for schools, as well as the support of important environmental causes. The Trust aims to raise public awareness of its projects and to provide a channel for other like-minded individuals and businesses to get involved. The Gondwana Care Trust currently supports more than 20 projects across Namibia.
