Gondwana Collection Namibia hosted a 40-member film crew for the German TV series ‘Das Traumschiff’ (The Dream Ship) at Etosha Safari Lodge & Camp for two days in April. The German production company POLYPHON Film- und Fernsehgesellschaft chose the shebeen at Etosha Safari Camp, as a backdrop for the filming.
Etosha Collection Team Leader, Agnes Iipumbu, and her staff supported the filming to the best of their abilities, "We tried to implement all the wishes of the production team," says Agnes Iipumbu. "Our in-house musicians at Etosha Safari Camp, who entertain our guests every evening around the campfire, will be featured in the television production, and we are very proud of that."
'Das Traumschiff - Namibia' will be broadcasted on 1 January 2022 (20:15) on the German TV channel ZDF. For many years, the cruise ship has traveled to wonderful places of longing all over the world, and Walvis Bay in Namibia is the destination port for the second time after 1999. On average, the popular television series is watched by 6 to 7 million viewers in Germany alone.
Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, travelling Namibia is well possible. In April 2021, the 7-day incidence rate was rather low by global standards, with less than 50 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. With 360 days of sunshine, most of life takes place outdoors; despite the common Corona precautionary measures, vacationers can enjoy a certain degree of freedom.
The tourism sector in Namibia has consistently implemented hygiene measures since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic. During the vaccination campaign to curb the spread of Covid-19, which started at the beginning of April, employees in the tourism sector were among the priority groups to receive the vaccine.
