Staple Namibian Fabric and Sewing Store, Chelsea Fashions has this year joined the Gondwana Care Trust’s Back-to-School Christmas Bag Project with a gracious donation of the needed fabric to make the 3000 bags that are donated at the end of the year.

Gondwana Care Trust, has for some years now, been driving the Back-to-School Christmas Bag Project; which aims to support school-going children across Namibia in three ways: One – reward the child for a successful school year completed. Two – Encourage the child to return to school in the next year, equipped with relevant stationary and bag. And three – a treat for Christmas, as they strive to add sweet, toys, or similar items to each bag, depending on the child’s age.

Every year, the various Gondwana lodges offer these bags up for “sale” – where the funds generated in these sales are used to produce/fill the bags. While this effort only generates a portion of the needed funds, the Gondwana Care Trust heavily relies on the support of different donors and sponsors around the country.

In September/October of each year, the bags are packed with a basic stationary kit, a book or toy, something sweet to nibble on and whatever else is available through sponsorships, including items such as toothbrushes, toiletries, etc. Each bag is personalized with the child’s name and class, and is packed with their needs in mind. This makes the bags even more special, as they are each unique to a specific child’s needs, age and circumstance.

This year, the Gondwana Care Trust was overjoyed by the gracious support offered by the Chelsea Fashions Family, who offered to sponsor the ten rolls of fabric needed to make the 3000 bags for this year’s run of the project. Their generous support has allowed for funding to become available that can now be used to purchase the items needed to fill these 3000 bags.
