The Commercial Advancement Training Scheme (CATS) Namibia, Gondwana Collection Namibia, and the Namibia Training Authority (NTA) have recently solidified a partnership aimed at advancing education and tourism in Namibia. This collaboration harnesses the strengths of each organisation to foster innovation, provide unique learning opportunities for Namibian students, and bolster the country’s workforce.
About CATS Namibia
CATS Namibia, accredited by the Namibia Qualifications Authority (NQA) and endorsed by the Southern African German Chamber of Commerce and Industry, offers a dual training program in Namibia. This program combines theoretical education with practical, on-the-job training for school graduates and employees seeking career development. In collaboration with the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST) and the Harold Pupkewitz Graduate School of Business, CATS Namibia currently offers two main programs:
- A two-year Diploma in Business Process Management through 24-month apprenticeships.
- A one-year Certificate in Supervisory Skills Development tailored for employees.
The Partnership
Gondwana Collection Namibia, having joined CATS Namibia in 2023, underwent rigorous assessments by NTA and subject matter experts to ensure its capacity to offer these educational programs. As of July 2024, Gondwana Collection Namibia will support CATS Namibia by providing resources and practical support, integrating students into real-world applications within the tourism industry.
Apprentices will engage actively, spending Mondays to Thursdays in workplace settings and Fridays and Saturdays attending face-to-face sessions at NUST.
Synergy of Tourism and Education
Gondwana Collection Namibia’s extensive network of tourist destinations will serve as experiential learning sites for CATS Namibia students. This approach not only enriches students’ educational experiences but also exposes them to the beauty and diversity of Namibia's natural and cultural heritage. By learning in dynamic environments, students gain valuable insights that prepare them for successful careers in the tourism sector.
Representatives Silke Ahrens and Jonathan Kashikola expressed their enthusiasm: “This learnership program marks a significant step for Gondwana Collection Namibia. We are impressed by the calibre and potential of the candidates. CATS has proven to be a professional and dedicated partner, and we look forward to its implementation.”
Apprenticeship Initiatives
Claudia Ngivelwa and Eugene Newala began their apprenticeships in July, selected through CATS’s annual program application and interview process conducted in collaboration with partner companies.
Future Prospects and Initiatives
This pioneering initiative in the tourism industry aims to establish sustainable educational models that can be replicated across Namibia, benefiting more students and communities. For more information, visit CATS Namibia.
By merging educational excellence with practical industry experience, CATS Namibia and Gondwana Collection Namibia are paving the way for a brighter future in both education and tourism sectors in Namibia.
