Hiring Process

Recruitment Process at Gondwana Collection Namibia

The hiring process at Gondwana Collection Namibia is designed to attract and retain talent by aligning with the company’s Employee Value Proposition (EVP), which emphasises personal growth, a vibrant work environment, and a commitment to sustainability. Central to this process is Gondwana Collection’s strategic reward system, which offers competitive compensation, professional development opportunities, and recognition for contributions to the company’s long-term success.

Every step, from identifying hiring needs to onboarding, reflects the company’s philosophy of nurturing talent that upholds Gondwana Collection’s core values of environmental stewardship, innovation, and guest-centric service. This holistic approach ensures that each new hire is not only technically qualified but also aligned with the company’s mission of providing exceptional tourism experiences while fostering a positive, growth-oriented workplace culture.

1. Identifying Skills Gaps and Hiring Needs: The process begins with an internal skills audit, where Gondwana Collection's People Team and Departmental Heads assess the current talent pool to identify skills gaps or vacancies that need to be filled. This step ensures that the hiring process is targeted, addressing the specific needs of the company, whether in guest services, hospitality management, or marketing.

2. Formulate Job Profile and Advertise Job Openings: After identifying the need for new hires, the next step is to formulate a detailed job profile. This profile outlines the key responsibilities, required qualifications, and desired competencies. Gondwana Collection emphasises creating profiles that reflect not only technical skills but also alignment with their core values of environmental responsibility and excellence in service.Once finalised, the job openings are advertised on the company’s website, relevant job portals, and social media platforms to attract a diverse pool of candidates.

3. Review and Screen Applications; Create Shortlist: The Talent team would conduct a comprehensive screening of the incoming applications. During this stage, they evaluate applicants based on their resumes and cover letters, ensuring that the skills and experiences highlighted align with the job descriptions. The most qualified candidates are then placed on a shortlist for further consideration.

4. Interview Potential Candidates: The shortlisted candidates are invited for interviews, which may include a combination of phone screenings, video interviews, or in-person interviews. Gondwana Collection’s interview process typically involves behavioural-based questions to assess how candidates would respond to real-life situations, in line with the company’s philosophy of sustainable tourism and community involvement. Emphasis is placed on soft skills like communication, teamwork, and adaptability, which are crucial in the tourism industry.

5. Select the Most Suitable Candidate: After conducting interviews, the People Team, along with relevant department heads, engages in a collaborative discussion to evaluate each candidate’s performance and overall suitability for the role. The focus is on selecting a candidate, who not only meets the technical and experience criteria, but also demonstrates alignment with Gondwana Collection's values of innovation, integrity, and guest satisfaction.

6. Evaluation for Lodge-Based Candidates: Once the suitable candidate has been selected, the candidate is sent for a trial week. A trial week, is a procedure where the candidate is sent to the selected lodge for 7 to 14 days for evaluation and to determine the adaptability to the team, company - as well as determining the candidate’s skill-level.

7. Evaluation of Employment Offer: Once the most suitable candidate is identified, the People Team extends an offer of employment. This offer is carefully crafted to reflect the role’s responsibilities, the company’s compensation philosophy, and the candidate’s qualifications. Candidates are encouraged to evaluate the offer and negotiate where necessary to ensure mutual satisfaction and long-term alignment.
