The Pearls: A Luxury Pod That Changed Our Brain Chemistry

By Rosanne Kahuure

There’s nothing secret about the gorgeousness of The Pearls at Gondwana’s Secret Collection, except, maybe, how much you’ll want to gatekeep it once you’ve stayed there. But I’m feeling generous, so let me give you the full download on a coastal escape that felt like the universe just said, “Here, darling. You deserve this.”

The Pearls is a three-story dream pod perched right on the beach, facing the wild Atlantic. The sound of crashing waves fills the air like a living soundtrack. The power of the ocean outside is perfectly contrasted by the calm, curated beauty of the space inside. It felt like stepping into a very luxurious, very well-lit Pinterest board.

And the scent? Divine. The whole place smelled like serenity—fresh, expensive, spa-adjacent serenity. There were diffusers dotted around on every floor, subtly elevating the vibe. Of course, I absolutely peeked at the brand so I can recreate the scent at home… but that detail? I’m fully gatekeeping. You’ll just have to book a stay and sniff for yourself.

We each claimed our rooms with all the excitement of kids picking bunks at camp, except this was adult luxury escape. I snagged the ocean-facing bedroom (can confirm: waking up to the sea is transformative), while my bestie took the room with the massive walk-in shower, which she immediately declared her spa sanctuary.

But the real moment? The fridge. Stocked with chef-prepared meals that were as beautiful as they were tasty. As two foodies, and also babes who love to cook but also love to do absolutely nothing, it was heaven. We could eat like queens without having to put on shoes or find a menu. No restaurant pressure. No grocery lists. Just open fridge, heat, serve, devour.

After exploring all three stories of the pod (because of course we did a mini tour first), we settled on the top-floor balcony with drinks and full-body grins. There was this warm, fizzy feeling of dopamine coursing through us. The ocean, the view, the sheer luxury of it all, it was surreal.

I whipped up a quick charcuterie board with the kitchen stash: biltong (obviously, we’re Namibian), cold cuts, cheese, pickled onions, fruit, crackers. It was everything.

For dinner, we had kabeljou fish in a tomato basil marinade with a dreamy side of aubergine parmesan. As the sun set, we lit candles, turned on the warm glow of the lamps, and even sparked the fire. The sea breeze rolled in, and we were wrapped in the cosiest cocoon of soft light and ocean sounds. Honestly, it felt like we were in some luxury ad for “serene coastal living, but make it sensual.”

After dinner, we curled up with The Four Seasons on Netflix, a show that suddenly felt very “us.” About five minutes in, one of us gasped and remembered: the snack drawer. We practically levitated to the kitchen for chocolate. Life was excellent.

Sleep came easily, deep, quiet, and full of that grounded peace that only comes when you know everything is taken care of.

The next morning, I made myself a fancy coffee (because of course the pod had all the tools), and took a steamy shower, drying off with towels that had been toasting on the heated towel rails. You don’t know you need that kind of luxury until you have it, and then it becomes non-negotiable.

Breakfast was artisanal bread, eggs, crispy bacon, and fresh fruit. Afterwards, we took a stroll along the beachfront promenade, which is literally steps from the pod. It’s a five-minute walk into town and practically next to the Strand Hotel, but honestly? We couldn’t wait to get back “home.” The pod had claimed us. We were under its spell.

Back at the house, bestie fired up the Weber while I poured something sparkling, and got to work making a leisurely braai. There was this soft, golden feeling in the air, like we’d paused real life and entered a better version of it. The kind where you believe you can do anything. Where you feel on top of the world.

And maybe, just maybe, that’s what The Pearls does best: reminds you of what life can feel like when you lean into joy, luxury, ease… and good snacks.
