Spring Day , Sustainability month

Kicking Off Sustainability Month with Spring Day

By Monique Tredoux
September 01, 2025

This 1st of September, we welcome Spring Day together with celebrating September as Sustainability Month. A testament to nature’s unwavering resilience, the start of Spring breathes renewed energy into ecosystems and showcases how nature can bounce back after a season of stillness.

At Gondwana, we honour this season not only as a celebration of new beginnings, but as a reminder of our commitment to nature: to conserve, regenerate, and support the ecosystems that sustain us. Our call echoes beyond creating an impact for present generations, but for Namibia’s future generations to inherit thriving ecosystems.

Giving back to nature what belongs to nature is at the heart of what we do. Our tree nurseries at Canyon Lodge in the south, Damara Mopane Lodge in the north-west, and Namushasha River Lodge in the north-east, nurture indigenous trees for replanting back into their surrounding habitat.

In Namibia, indigenous trees are threatened by habitat loss, alien invasive species, and changing climatic conditions, yet are vital for stabilizing soil, capturing carbon from the atmosphere, and sustaining communities and biodiversity. This highlights the importance of strengthening ecosystems and their ability to evolve past environmental challenges by planting more indigenous trees – an initiative we lead through our lodges, and by involving communities and local schools.

This September, our lodges will be planting trees with a vision to strengthen the unique ecosystems that sustain them, aligned with the perfect timing of Spring in our Gondwana Tree-a-thon. It’s not merely about planting trees – it’s about creating shared value that will sustain life for generations to come.

Beyond creating awareness and inspiring practical action, Sustainability Month focuses on strengthening social engagement as we collectively roll up our sleeves in conservation initiatives. How will you be getting your hands dirty this September?
