15 Eland Released at Kalahari Anib Park

By Terttu Newaka
March 23, 2026

This weekend, Gondwana’s Kalahari Park welcomed 15 eland, Africa’s largest antelope.

Prior to this release, the park was home to 45 elands.

These newcomers, 14 female and one males, represent the first introduction of the species to the park since 2015. This strategic move aims to strengthen genetic diversity and build a more resilient population for the future.

Eland play a vital role in maintaining the delicate balance of our ecosystem. Their browsing habits help shape vegetation, while their movement across the landscape supports natural seed dispersal, contributing to a healthier and more dynamic biodiversity.

Eland release in Kalahari KAL 2026

Elands released in to Gondwana's Kalahari Park for the first time since 2015.

This reintroduction forms part of Gondwana Collection’s commitment to one of its key impact deliverables: ensuring healthy, balanced biodiversity across its nature parks.

At Kalahari Anib Lodge, our experienced rangers and wardens carefully monitor wildlife populations through annual game counts, adjusting stocking levels in line with rainfall patterns and available grazing. It’s a deliberate and responsive approach to conservation management.
