Gondwana Green Ridge Trail Run: A Blend of Nature, Sport, and Socializing

Written by Gondwana Collection | Feb 18, 2023 8:50:25 AM

More than 200 participants laced up their running shoes in the chilly morning hours of 18 February 2023 to take part in the second Trail Run at Moonraker Outdoor Adventure Restcamp. First to hit the track at the Gondwana Green Ridge Trail Run were the 20km runners; the 10km participants followed hot on their heels.

"We have learned from our experiences from the first trail run in September 2022 and optimised the race sequence, especially with regards to the start, water points and trail markings,” says Kirsty Brits from Gondwana Collection Namibia, who is an avid runner and tested the trails in advance. “The 20 and 10km routes are very challenging and demand a lot from the runners." (Please find the trail run results below.)

Yes, there is talent! First to cross the finish line in the 5km race (ltr) were the young runners
Wilder van Drunen (2nd), Lubin Conradie (1st) and Durban Johnson (3rd).

For the participants of the 5km course - often families who enjoyed a vigorous walk through nature -, the focus was mostly on fun. Here it was not about the ranking; instead participants took part in a lucky draw.

After the race, almost all the runners, many of them accompanied by family and friends, enjoyed the live music by ÖkBeans and the Etosha Boys, and the delicious Spitbraai for lunch. For the younger visitors (and not only for them), the many baby animals at Moonraker Farm were the highlight of the day.

"With our trail runs we want to bring as many people as possible closer to nature and show them the beauty of the Auas Mountains, especially now during the rainy season," says Tina Goldbeck, manager of Moonraker Outdoor Adventure Rest Camp. "We don't just want to promote sporting ambitions, but above all socialising, and we really appreciate that so many runners have embraced our offer to spend the day at Moonraker."

Vilho Paulus (l.) was the first runner to finish the 20km race followed by Thomas Miller.

A big thank you goes to all the sponsors of this event, especially King Price Insurance, SPAR Namibia and Nova 103.5 as well as FlyNamibia, StaminoGro, Norflex Gel, OSH-Med international and FabuPharm.

The Gondwana Green Ridge Trail Run forms part of the Gondwana Adventure events which also include the Moon Valley Marathon on 18 March, the Moonraker Ridge Trail Run on 16 September and the Gondwana Care Trust Golf Day on 29 September 2023.
