Over the last 6 months, various exciting and new projects, as well as events in Namibia, have received support from the Gondwana Care Trust. The Gondwana Moon Valley Marathon, which is an annual event hosted by Gondwana Collection Namibia, received great support from the Care Trust Team.

Gondwana Moonvalley Marathon 2023

The annual event takes place in Swakopmund and offers a various distances and trails for runners to choose from. The Gondwana Care Trust was honored to assist at one of the water points to encourage the runners along the trails. With team spirit and encouragement, they cheered for the runners, of which some of them even attempted to run the Ultra Marathon of 47 kilometers. The aim of these future marathons, is to hand back the funds to the Gondwana Care Trust. Thank you to all the sponsors who made the event a success.

We cannot be more grateful for the trust and support received. Thank you to all the amazing riders and the donations received from the event. It is always amazing to share a smile and to be part of such an amazing team.

See you all again next year in Swakopmund! Keep an eye on the Gondwana Facebook account for updates on the next event.

Promiseland – Walvis Bay

The Promiseland Forming Project consists of a Pre-Primary School, with three qualified teachers, who prepare vulnerable children for school with the aid of good ethical values and character formation.

The Forming Project began in 2012 with the intention of helping to keep children off the streets, by allowing them to spend the day learning and playing at the Promiseland Center. However, since then it has grown to be much more than just a day care center.

Since Promiseland Play Center opened its doors, 60 children aged between 3 and 6 years, visit the center each morning.  The Care Trust has invested in two more classrooms. Once these will be completed, they will hopefully increase the school’s capacity to 100 children, while creating three more job opportunities for two qualified Montessori teachers and one Teacher’s Assistant.

The Gondwana Care Trust was blessed to be able to assist Promiseland with the distribution of some of the furniture that was generously donated in Windhoek.  Here are some pictures of the resource center before and after the delivery of the furniture, as well as after the delivery of some reading books.

Promiseland is still developing their resource center, and if you are able to contribute towards any IT Equipment to help the center, please do contact caretrust@gcnam.com or Promiseland directly.

Books and any educational material to assist the children with their learning material, will be greatly appreciated. Too many students don't have access to the internet or even books to be able to complete their school assignments. Please share the word if you can and let's help to contribute towards a successful school year.

Please add the reference "promiseland" to your donation.

We thank you very much.

The soup kitchen is just down the road from the Center, and provides a nutritious meal to over 300 students on a daily basis.

Promiseland has joined the MealForTwo Program. Many students of Tutaleni are benefiting from the soup kitchen and it is with pride that we are contributing towards a healthy meal being served to over 300 learners daily (when the school is open).

Promiseland looks after the self sufficient garden, established at the nearby School Tutaleni, and it hopes to develop the vegetable garden even further in the future.

Please contact us, or Promiseland directly here, if you are able to contribute to the development of the vegetable garden, in any way. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts! Please have a look out for our next Care Trust newsletters to view the progress on all out projects.

The Gondwana Care Trust is assisting Promiseland, with the sponsorship of one Namibia2Go vehicle, to provide transport for the famous Karen Zoid band. A concert is being held to raise funds and awareness towards the Center.

Please do not hesitate to contribute towards this worthy cause by attending the above events, which enables Promiseland to develop their Center  and education, as well as the contribution of healthy nutrition towards the children.

The Planetarium - Swakopmund

Through a collaboration between Radboud University Nijmegen, the Radboud Radio Lab, the

Netherlands Research School for Astronomy (NOVA), the University of Namibia (UNAM), and the Rössing Foundation, the captivating Mobile Planetarium Project came to life.

As education is one of  the most important aspects for  the Gondwana Care Trust, the Mobile Planetarium Team generously offered to visit one of the Trust's supported projects in Swakopmund, after their previous successful visit to Etosha. The Team ensured that this incredible project reached communities far and wide across our beautiful country.

The Gondwana Care Trust sponsored the accommodation for the UNAM students accompanying the Planetarium Team in Swakopmund, at The Delight Swakopmund.

The presentations were a huge success, and the children were amazed by the show. It is always an amazing gift to share knowledge and to discover a the scientific research together that makes up our universe. To see beyond and to learn so much about our sky is something the children will not forget soon.

Thank you Ms Anja & the DRC Community Women Center, who made set up the mobile planetarium possible for the team, in order to welcome more children to the show.

THANK YOU to everyone involved – The children were beyond amazed.

Thank you to Mr. Volkan Sazli and to Tangeni Shilongo Namibia for providing us with the following images:

Thank you to Volkan and the entire Team at the Tangeni Shilongo Center for opening the Center and welcoming the Team so warmly.
