I love this time of the year, as it is a time to reflect, to create new goals or to simply welcome change. It is also a time to unwind, spend time with loved ones and fully immerse oneself in nature. And of course it is summer, which obviously serves as the perfect excuse to treat yourself to some delicious ice cream.
Perhaps after an adventure in north-eastern Namibia, basking in the sun and enjoying the intimate setting of the Namushasha River Villa or after you’ve appreciated the elegance of The Desert Grace. And this blistering 37 degrees Celsius day is definitely appropriate for a few scoops of ice cream to cool down just a little during your sojourn in Windhoek.

After careening the many shops of Wernhil Park trying to find the perfect Christmas present for your parents and it seems like you’re not having any luck, make a quick pit stop at Milky Lane. Sooth your soul with some soft serve ice cream drenched in a chocolate dip in a sugar cone. Be adventurous and try some of their other sweet treats too. Open Monday to Friday from 8 am to 6:30 pm, Saturday from 9 am to 3 pm, Sunday and public holidays 9 am to 2 pm.
If you’ve been discovering the fascinating streets of Windhoek and have stopped by the Independence Memorial Museum and swiftly traversed the road to the Christuskirche to absorb its breathtaking interior and its captivating silence, I hope you drift off into Independence Avenue and explore the city right opposite the Carl List Mall. This is where you will notice an outdoor seating area inundated with laughter and conversations… this is Cramer’s Ice Cream.
Try their hazelnut or dark chocolate ice cream. If you are lactose intolerant, their lemon-mint sorbet served fittingly with a waffle could be just what you need.
If you do not like ice cream or sorbets, indulge in their various flavoured frozen yoghurt options. Open Monday to Saturday from 8 am to 10 pm and Sunday from 9 am to 10 pm.
Have you had stir-fried ice cream yet? Well, The Taste Bud is here to make all your stir-fried ice cream roll dreams come true. Watching the ice-cream crafters create your mouth-watering koeksister or Ferrero Rocher with a vanilla base and topped off with Oreo, caramel sauce and whipped cream fried ice cream rolls simultaneously serves as an art show.
So, don’t waste any time, and treat yourself to some fried ice cream rolls. Open Monday to Saturday from 9 am to 7 pm and Sunday 9 am to 5 pm. If you prefer a good old vanilla soft serve twirl ice cream, then Steers, Hungry Lion or KFC should do the trick. And if you are headed to China Town for some Christmas décor essentials, right opposite the main entrance is my friend, Shaanika, who serves vanilla and strawberry soft serve ice cream with a welcoming smile.
Better yet, if you would prefer to get creative and make your own ice cream, purchase your desired toppings at local supermarkets and the Cramer’s Ice Cream tubs at Klara’s Market or E.a.t (at) … there’s never a dull moment with ice cream.
Sun’s out, it’s hot and it’s the perfect time for that ice cream, frozen yoghurt or sorbet. So, go out and try one of these spots!
