It’s New Year’s soon! And everyone in Namibia is excited about New Year’s Eve and how to ring-in the New Year in style. Some people, like my best friend Peggy in her black laced dress and heels, prefer to dress up and paint the town red. Others, like me, prefer a get-together in the comfort of their homes.
Family and friends usually nominate a home for a themed party or most likely a braai, which involves a lot of dancing, discussions (annual-New-Year’s-resolutions) and tasty food to keep you going till midnight – which I particularly look forward to!
Here are a few events taking place on NYE for all those who want to venture outdoors or try something new:
Gobabis
Gobabis colour party reloaded year end bash - At the Legare Stadium and starts at 12pm.
Windhoek
All white masquerade New Year’s party - At the Nyama restaurant on Jan Jonker road, next to the Windhoek Show Grounds, and starts at 7pm.
New Year’s Eve at the Hilton Sky Bar - At the Hilton Hotel and starts at 8pm.
If you would rather indulge in a unique culinary experience on NYE in Windhoek with an amazing view of the city, reserve a table at either one of the following restaurants (hopefully it’s not too late to do so):
Hotel Thule with it’s lovely hilltop setting.
Nimms restaurant in the National Independence Memorial Museum. The city views from the glass elevator as make you make your way to the restaurant is a spectacular prelude to the view from the restaurant itself.
Swakopmund
Long Beach New Year’s bash - On Long Beach and starts at 12pm. It’s a fun family event with musical entertainment, variety of food choices, bar, bonfires and fireworks later that evening.
New Year’s Eve Fiesta - At the Desert Tavern, starts at 8pm.
Choices, choices and many more choices! I am sure there are more events in riverbeds, between the dunes, at deserted mines and so on … ask your friends to ask their friends or family where they’re going and would like to go. Or be bold and go to the braai of that old friend you have been meaning to catch up with since September.
We wish you all a safe and fun NYE. Have a splendid 2018 and keep smiling!
