A day to day blog about Dave and Jill Carroll and their Namibian road trip impressions along their trip through Namibia with the Professors and the Gondwana team.
DAY 1
Today is the first day of Dave and Jill Carroll’s African adventure. It started with a scenic flight from Windhoek to Sossusvlei.
They were received at the dusty airstrip by Manni Goldbeck and the travelling party. The musicians spontaneously serenaded them upon landing.
We entered Sossusvlei and ventured to the famous Dune 45. It was the perfect spot for the first take of the Gondwana song’s music video, which was written by The Professors from Cape Town.
When all the guitars were packed up it was time for the climb. Shoes off and hats on we all climbed the red sand dune to the highest point of 130 m.
After resting a little to admire the spectacular view we decided to run down the side of the dune instead of walking the way we came. A little hot on the feet, but a lot of fun.
At this point we were famished and Manni found a great big Acaccia tree for us to enjoy delicious brunch in its shade.
Our next stop was the Namib Dune star camp, but before we went there Manni took us on a sunset trip nearby. It is a lookout point like no other. The musicians had a few more takes of the song in this spectacular setting and of course we all enjoyed a G&T.
This led us to the Dune Star Camp where we enjoyed a breathtaking African sunset.
After a lovely dinner the guitars came out and we all sat around the fire singing the night away.
The real show stopper though was the stars and the fact that we can enjoy them from our beds on the deck of our room.
DAY 2
We had coffee delivered to our rooms at sunrise and it is very difficult to describe the view with words.Our adventure takes us to Swakopmund today. It is a bit of a drive, but fortunately the ever changing landscape captivated us.
We had a lovely lunch in Walvisbay's Anchors restaurant followed by a trip on a yacht. It was a wonderful experience for all and off course the guitars had to come along.
The highlight was Bobby. He is a wild seal that has figured out that they have fish on board. They showed us how to feed him and Dave had a go.
The sunset over the ocean was another highlight, as Dave and Jill don’t experience that in Canada.We continued to Swakopmund on a road where you have ocean on the one side and desert on the other.
Dinner was at the end of the jetty in the ocean, and we could feel the waves crashing and flowing underneath.
The evening ended with all disappearing to their rooms at the Hansa Hotel for a good night’s rest.
