My top 10 travel essentials for a Namibian Trip

Written by Gondwana Collection | Oct 13, 2022 9:00:00 AM

When I’m traveling, I always feel like I am forgetting something, most of the time I am, but for that two percent where I am on top of my packing game, I always make sure to pack these essentials:

  1. Sun Screen and After-Sun

You’ve probably heard this a million times, but the Namibian sun is not your friend. She’s always angry and will burn you any chance she gets. Applying Sun Screen constantly is so important no matter where you are. My choice would be “Cetaphil Sun SPF50+ High Protection Lotion”.

Sometimes the sun still catches us on a few places and for those moments After-Sun is your best friend. One that I have been using for years and still take with me everywhere is “Nivea After Sun Moisture Spray”.

  1. Everything Allergex

There is not a day where I don’t have “Allergex Non-Drowsy Tablets” in my handbag. And since I am an over-packer, I prepare for the worst. So, in my medicine bag I have:

Allergex Non-Drowsy - For those pesty sinuses with Namibia’s constant changing weather.

Allergex Mepyrimal Cream - I was recommended this cream for my dry skin, but use it whenever I go traveling for when a mosquito bites me or in case another bug has found my skin quite yummy.

Allergex Eyedrops – I have sensitive eyes, and after a long day in the sun and dust your eyes will thank you for these drops.

  1. A hat

I don’t think there is a worse feeling in the world than burning your hairline. And to avoid that your best bet is a hat, unless you want to spray your hair with sunblock (wouldn’t recommend)

  1. A good book

There is nothing better than sitting next to a stunning view and reading a good book, whether this be poems, a thriller, romance or whatever you prefer. Any good book will take your trip from an 8 to a 10/10.

  1. Plakkies (flip-flops)

Namibia is the land of sand. The worst thing that can happen to you is having sand in your closed shoes. Plakkies are a life saver, want to go to the bar, pool or a walk? Take those plakkies.

  1. Toilet Paper or Tissues

You never know when you need to go. When driving long hours, toilet paper and a pit stop is your best friend. Take wetwipes along just for incase. Tip: Bury everything afterwards.

  1. Imodium or Laxatives.

Always plan for both. Maybe you go, maybe you can’t. It’s better to expect the worst when planning for your tummy problems.

  1. Vaseline

With this sun and dry air vaseline is the best thing for your lips. Carry it with you where ever you go. Vaseline is your new bestie.

  1. Sunglasses

There is a lot of Mica in our air and the sun is super bright. Having a pair of sunglasses with you won’t only make you look cool, but will also help your eyes a lot.

  1. Medazine

I hate driving the gravel roads and not being able to do anything without wanting to throw up. Medazine is one thing that I keep with me when traveling or just doing the day to day.

A Bonus:

Water. Always take a bottle of water wherever you go to avoid getting dehydrated. And just get a few electrolyte sachets for in case you do get dehydrated.

I absolutely love traveling, seeing all the wonders next to the road and being able to relax. I hate feeling like I forgot to pack something, so I hope this list will help you avoid that feeling.
