Kunene Regional Boxing Championship 2022

Project Coordinator: Zelda or Claudius Matsiub

Khorixas Boxing Academy was established in June 2022 and offers coaching and training in the sport code of boxing as well as any other code associated with boxing. The aim is to strengthen members of the community, not only physically but mentally and emotionally too. The academy provides a safe training environment that instills co-operation, athleticism, sportsmanship, commitment and self-confidence. They strive to promote a sense of community and reduce alcohol and drug abuse amongst the youth.

The Khorixas Boxing Academy has taken part in various tournaments and has so far won 12 gold medals and 20 silver medals. This is the first Tournament in the Kunene Region and therefore encourages more of the youth to join their ranks. The Gondwana Care Trust sponsored the purchasing of groceries to provide snacks and a small meal to the athletes during the tournament, which took place from 4 to 6 of November 2022.

The total value of the donation was N$2 420.00.

Well done to all the participants and wishing them all the best for the new year!

International Youth Fellowship – Windhoek

Mr. Philip Kim - Country Representative

After two years of the pandemic, it was time to return to normal with festivities and celebrations.

The International Youth Fellowship (IYF) is a world-wide interdenominational non-governmental and nonprofit organisation, with the objective to keep youth engaged in constructive activities and away from self-indulgence, deviation and substance abuse. This is achieved by establishing and running youth activities under three projects:

Social voluntary works

Every year, as part of their social voluntary efforts, the IYF volunteers perform Christmas Cantata for the residents of Windhoek and nearby towns. The Christmas Cantata is a world-renowned musical performance performed by the Gracias Choir.

Our volunteers remake this performance, with the sole purpose of presenting a special time of joy where hope and happiness can replace the difficulties and hardships in their lives.

The Gondwana Care Trust was able to assist with the groceries for 30 volunteers for 14 days.

Eduvision - Online Education

Eduvision offers recorded lessons in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology and Economy Grade 11 to learners in Grades 10, 11 and 12 according to the Namibia Curriculum, NSSC (O) and NSSC (AS). The rest of the school can also benefit from the system by using the Internet and Smartboard as teaching tool.

Their vision is “To connect teachers and learners in remote schools to the internet and modern e-learning techniques and to offer interactive teaching to remote schools.”

Namibia is a fast-developing country, but the vast areas mean that a lot of the smaller towns and villages do not have the infrastructure to support schools in remote areas.

Technology, however, allows to bridge this gap and to bring teachers and classes directly to the students in an innovative and extraordinary way. The generous help of sponsors, allows for Eduvision to provide equal opportunities to the youth of Namibia and ensure a brighter future for all.

The Gondwana Care Trust would like to enable more schools and their students to benefit from this fantastic opportunity. The Gondwana Care Trust commits to support Eduvision with accommodation on a full board basis to the teachers when traveling to the schools where the Gondwana Collection Namibia has properties. Eduvision travels regularly to all schools enrolled in the program to assist the teachers and the learners. They get important feedback on how to improve the program and they are also able to train the teachers in using the technology further.

We recently took part in a training session in Katima Mulilo which was focused on the use of the newly installed equipment for the teachers at the Ioma Combined School.

Thanks to our sponsor, who wishes to remain anonymous, the Gondwana Care Trust is able to assist Eduvision with the installations of two new Clever Touch Board TV Screens in Schlip and Tseis. The Gondwana Care Trust will also assist towards the fees in recording lessons towards Grade 1 to 3, including the tuition fees in 2023.

Ayuda Special Education Foundation

The Ayuda Special Education Foundation was established to assist parents struggling to meet their financial obligation towards the early development education of their children. The founder, Mrs Wyna Hohne, is a pre-primary school teacher and the headmistress of Akademia Pikkiepark. When Covid started and she saw the impact it had on the families of her little ones, she decided to do something that could help the families in her school as well as other families in the same situation. Your donation towards this foundation could help a child learn their ABC's or help a teacher keep her post and teach the children.

The Gondwana Collection Namibia assisted the Ayuda Foundation with a voucher towards their raffle to raise funds.
