A relaxing weekend getaway in Swakopmund, Namibia

As someone, who loves the ocean and the feeling of having my feet in the sand, Swakopmund is the best place to unwind.

With a few public holidays coming up, I will definitely plan a weekend to my favorite place, and with a love for lists and planning in advance, here is my ultimate weekend getaway plan.

I am planning to drive from Windhoek to the coast early in the morning, to be able to have lunch at a restaurant as close to the beach as possible, or maybe to just buy some lunch from Fork ’n Nice and enjoy it on the beach, with my toes digging into the sunbathed sand and my hair getting frizzy from the misty weather.

This leaves my afternoon open to enjoy a well deserved soft serve ice-cream at The Mole, as I watch the people swim and revel on the beach. While spending the afternoon there, it would be perfect to have a sundowner at one of the restaurants close to the water, and I would then finish the evening off with an amazing local dinner.

After dinner, I'll take a slow drive to The Delight Swakopmund, my first choice to stay in the coastal town to enjoy the lovely atmosphere of the Swakopmund community and the friendly hosts of the Gondwana Collection Namibia hotel.

I will definitely try to sleep in, and wake up just in time to start the day off with an iconic Delight breakfast with champagne. This is the perfect beginning to a relaxing weekend.

My family and I found the perfect little spot to spend a day at the beach, which isn’t a hassle or far to drive to. Once you get to the mole beach, you’ll find a few rocks that divide the Mole restaurants from the rest of the beach. On the one side is where all the people usually go, and on the other side a secluded beach stretches out for more privacy and quiet time. This is the perfect spot to have a breezy afternoon.

Once the weather starts becoming cold as the fog travels into the town, you know it’s time to get a Wurstbude pizza and relax at The Delight Swakopmund with friends, family, or even on my own. I might even get a signature cocktail at the bar and unwind on the couch until it is time to go to my room for another good night of sleep.

As my last day in Swakopmund arrives, I get up to have an early last breakfast, before I pack my things and get an ice-cream at Ice & Spice, which is very recommendable.

It’s a tradition in my family to walk along The Jetty right before we leave back to Windhoek, so this will be a must. Once we have said goodbye to the ocean, it is time to get back to reality, but I am convinced that I will be back sooner than I think.

Have you been to Swakopmund, or do you plan to drive to the coast on the long weekend?
